Deconstructing Power with Dr. Nancy Wadsworth Part 3: Grounded Power & Returning to Inner Authority

In this episode, I'm once again joined by Dr. Nancy Wadsworth, who is a Professor Emerita of Political Science at the University of Denver. Dr Wadsworth’s work sits at the intersection of culture, politics, race, religion, and social movements. In this episode we’re breaking down the difference between grounded power and toxic power.

In this conversation, we discuss:

  • how power feels different in the body

  • why confirmation bias can work for or against us depending on our beliefs

  • the courage required to follow intuition over external approval

  • what leaders like Desmond Tutu and Michelle Obama teach us about holding power with dignity

Dr. Nancy Wadsworth: When we're grounded in power, we're aligned with our capacity. We're acting in our full capacity, and we feel almost like a channel for it, like our eyes are relaxed, because they become portals. They're not defenses, and your voice is in your chest, and it's just the thing that's enabling the ideas to come forward. It's like it's resonant, and your movement feels easy, it feels aligned. So I'm using somatics to get us to think about grounded power. You're not Braining anything. You're not Braining. You're just flowing.
