Finding the Voice You Didn't Know you Had with Susan Murphy
In this episode, I invite Susan Murphy to talk about how to find your authentic inner voice. I love Susan–she is the reason this podcast exists. A broadcast veteran of 40 years and vocal coach, she was one of the first people who helped me understand the power of finding your authentic voice as a woman.
This episode contains a discussion of suicide and grief. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. Please take care of yourself while listening.
In this conversation, we discuss:
How diaphragmatic breathing unlocks a voice most women don't know they have
How society teaches women to make themselves smaller
What boldness means when it's not about volume
What it took for Susan to walk into a New York City boardroom at 23 as one of the only women in the room
Imposter syndrome and social media
Suicide, grief & breath as a way to keep going
Susan Murphy: I don't believe everything happens for a reason. I don't believe there's some master plan for all of us that resulted in this, but that spirit–and this several layers in–your spirit needs nourishment. Your spirit needs to see that bad things will happen to good people, and you can't control that. You can only control how you react to the bad things, and you always have a choice.
